| New Jersey Firms Provide Education on Data Forensics Best Practices
May 26, 2004 – Three New Jersey professional
services firms, IND, P.G. Lewis & Associates, and
Cuyler Burk, LLP, held an educational seminar yesterday
on the best-practices approach to the emerging field
of data forensics.
Recent New Jersey amendments to the
court rules require attorneys to pro-actively manage
the electronic discovery process and to investigate
a client’s information
management system in order to understand how information
is stored and how it can be retrieved. “This
ruling is causing havoc in many law firms that are
not prepared. It is having an immediate and dramatic
impact on both civil and criminal cases,” said
Robert Kleeger, a partner in P.G. Lewis & Associates,
the leading electronic discovery and data forensics
firm.
Mr. Kleeger discussed the best practices involved
with the electronic discovery and data forensics processes. “Adhering
to the rules of evidence and following the legal process
is paramount,” noted Mr. Kleeger.
Douglas Rahn,
President & CEO of IND, the premier
New Jersey technology management services firm, provided
insight into the ramifications of data theft. “The
cost of intellectual property theft is staggering.
The impact of the recent IP theft from the largest
manufacturer of internet switching systems will most
likely cost the company, their clients, investors and
vendors hundreds of millions of dollars.”
There are a number of pro-active initiatives that
companies should take to protect themselves from internal
and external threats. However, should an event take
place, Peter Petrou, Supervising Partner in the noted
legal services firm Cuyler Burk, noted that “implementing
the electronic discovery process early and correctly
is essential. One mistake in the process could spell
disaster for your case.”
